The Psalmist tells us, "God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble."

This is the Good News

The truth is this...

1) God loves you.

God cares for you so much that he wants you to be with him forever.
(John 3:16; Ephesians 2:4-5)

2) You are a sinner.

Sin is choosing to go your own way and do your own thing as opposed to going God's way.
(Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:10)

3) Sin separates you from God.

Choosing to go your own way causes an insurmountable barrier between you and a perfect holy God, and so a relationship with God becomes impossible.
(Isaiah 59:2; Romans 3:23)

4) You can’t save yourself.

Often we think that we can overcome the sin barrier between ourselves and God if we: just work a little harder, get our act together, do random acts of kindness or start attending church. But that just doesn't work. We can never be good enough. The truth is there isn't anything that we can do to earn God’s salvation.
(Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; Romans 4:4-5)

5) God sent his Son Jesus to remove the sin barrier.

However, here is where we get to hear the Good News. What you cannot do for yourself, Jesus, God's Son has done for you! Jesus took your sins upon himself when he allowed himself to be crucified on the cross. Jesus paid the price (the death penalty in fact) for our sin. God, then raised his Son (brought him back to life on the third day) making a way for you and I to have a relationship with God. Death (sin) was truly conquered.
(1 Peter 2:23; Romans 5:8; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Romans 10:9)

6) You can only receive Jesus Christ through faith.

So... you've heard the Good News but it isn't truly 'Good' for you until you receive it personally. This is where faith enters the picture. Faith is trusting in what Jesus has done for you rather than trusting your own efforts. Faith also involves repentance, genuine sorrow for your sin and a willingness to change direction.
(John 14:6; Acts 16:31; Romans 10:9-10)

7) Through prayer you can trust in Jesus Christ.

Admit to God how you have gone your own way. Express sorrow or repentance for your life lived in opposition to him. Ask him to forgive you. Invite Jesus into your life to be your Saviour and Lord. Commit yourself to live for him and receive God's forgiveness. (1 John 1:9)
